A Question For My Blogging Friends....

Since the blogosphere is the largest group of people that I will ever get to talk to and make friends with, I was hoping that some of my friends and visitors might be able to help me with a question that I have.  Please don't hesitate to leave a thought or comment whatever it may be.  I appreciate any and all input that I can get.  So, here it is.................

We are looking to move from our house this year, and one of our concerns is finding what we want in the timeframe that we are hoping to move in.  We have looked at the listings in our area, and so far have not found something to suit our needs.  We also want to be able to move in a reasonable amount of time, so one of the things that we are considering right now is looking into modular homes...please note: we want modular...not manufactured or mobile.  It would give us the freedom to custom design the home the way that we want it, and the size that we want it as well as cutting down construction time enough to get us where we want to be alot quicker.  I understand they are far more energy efficient than traditionally built homes as well as sturdier in construction.  They also boast that you almost always save money in the cost of the home than if you were to buy or build another way.  There are many vacant lots that we are interested in, so that will not be a problem for us.

My question to you, my friends is:  Do any of you live in a modular home or know anyone else that does or has?  If so, can you share any positive or negative thoughts on them?  Right now, we are just in the research phase, and would love to know that whatever choice we make, that we will not regret it in a year or 5-10 years from now.   My primary concerns are of course, quality, durability over time, cost and/or hidden costs beyond the construction of the house, any problems with financing or selling when the time comes.

I know that is alot of questions to my CRAFT friends, but I figure that someone out there might know something about this that they would be willing to share with me.

So, just mixing it up a bit this week and giving you all something different to read on my blog.  Don't worry, I will be back to posting my cards again shortly.

Thanks to anyone who is kind enough to comment.  I appreciate you and value your thoughts and comments.  God Bless you!!

Have a beautiful weekend!

I have an All American modular and the construction on them is one of the best, just like stick built. No problems with it at all but you are limited in any modular more than you think because of the codes they have to follow. They can NOT move walls etc like you can in a stick built house or windows etc. My father was in the construction business and All American was his only modular he would work with. Good luck!

Carolyn, wish I could be of help but I don't know anyone who lives in a modular home. I'm sure you will weigh all the pros and cons (when you have them) before making a decision. The best of luck to you with your search!

Hi Carolyn ... this is such a difficult time isn't it!! I have friends back in the Pittsburgh area who moved from a 4-bedroom 2 story home to a modular home due to the husband's health and they just LOVE it!! I've been there several times and it's beautiful! They have 3 bedrooms, the living area is very spacious and they are so glad they went with the modular. I don't know who the "mfg" is but I'm sure there is a wealth of info here on the net for such things. Hope this helped! Good Luck!

Hey Carolyn! Good luck w/ your move and any decisions you do make! The only info about modulars that I remember being told when shopping for my own home, was that they are harder to finance than a stick built home, similar to a mobile home, etc. & that they do not increase in value as rapidly. I don't know if this is necessarily true, or if it depends on mfg, loc, etc. but something to keep in mind/ find out more info. I do remember looking at some incredible modulars though, they definitely can be beautiful homes!!!

Best wishes! ~ Sonya
